Patient's Rights

 

PATIENT’S RIGHTS

As a patient, you should know your rights under the Mental Health Act 2001 and Mental Health Policy 2010 as follows:

  • Your right to know the reason for admission to the hospital
  • Your right to know the way of discharge, leaves or transfer to another hospital
  • Your right to know about your illness and treatment plans
  • Your right to know that all the information about yourself and your illness are private and confidential.
  • Your right for your privacy to be respected and protected
  • Your right to have an appropriate accommodation while in the hospital
  • Your rights to perform appropriate leisure activities
  • Your right to practice your gender identity
  • Your right to practice your religious belief
  • Your right to communicate with people outside the hospital
  • Your right to have a visitor
  • Your right to have a second psychiatrist opinion
  • Your right to obtain legal assistance
  • Your right to plead to the Hospital Director (Medical), Board of Visitors or the General Director of Health, Malaysia for release
